Cancer Adventures board members offer a wide range of skills and experience in medicine, education, business and finance - and each is connected to cancer in one way or another.

 

 

        

ARCHIE BLEYER, MD is Clinical Research Professor in the Radiation Medicine Department at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland, OR. He also serves as Medical Director of Clinical Research and Director of the DEFEAT Cancer program at St. Charles Regional Medical Center, Bend, OR; Chair of the Institutional Research Board, Cascade Healthcare Community, Bend, OR; Director of Aflac/CureSearch

Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Research; and founding member of the LiveStrong Young Adult Alliance.

Dr. Bleyer chaired the Children’s Cancer Group for 10 years with the Department and Division of Pediatrics at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, then the world's largest pediatric cancer research organization. He was the American Cancer Society Professor of Clinical Oncology and in charge of the cancer curriculum in the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Bleyer completed his undergraduate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and earned his Medical Degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He completed his residency in Pediatrics Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine and earned Fellowships with the National Cancer Institute and the University of Washington School of Medicine.

During the past three decades, Dr. Bleyer was awarded research grants as a principal investigator totaling more than $75 million from the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia Society of America. His research has been published in more than 300 peer-reviewed articles, chapters and books. His current personal clinical research is dedicated to adolescents and young adult (AYA) oncology.

 

 

ROBIN GOULD is a senior executive with

an unusually broad background. Areas of expertise include finance, information technology, strategic planning and logistics.

Semi-retired since 1992, Robin currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors and consultant to Bonne Bell, Inc., Cleveland, OH. He is a member of the Board

of Directors for Cascade Healthcare

       

Community, Bend OR; NetWorth Strategy, also in Bend; and a consultant to Square-H Brands, Inc based in Los Angeles, CA. Gould also serves as a committee member for Bend Venture Conference and PubTalk, both of Bend, OR.

Robin formerly held senior financial management positions (including CFO) with Guess? in Los Angeles, CA; E&J Gallo Winery, Modesto, CA; and Mars (Candy) Incorporated, McLean, VA. Prior to that, Gould was Management Science Analyst at Scott Paper Company (Philadelphia, PA), and Structural Engineer with the Boeing Company Vertol Division (Philadelphia, PA).

Robin holds a BS in Structural Engineering from Duke University and an MBA from Wharton-University of Pennsylvania.

Robin was the caregiver of his wife, Joan, who lost her nine-year battle with breast cancer.

 

 

       

LIZZI KATZ is a breast cancer survivor and serves as Survivorship Coordinator in the Cancer Treatment Center at St. Charles Medical Center. She is passionate about speaking to groups in Central and Eastern Oregon communities as she shares her story and encourages others to be screened for early detection.

Originally from New York City, Lizzi has lived in Oregon for twenty years since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Oregon. She has worked as an artist, a theatrical costumer, and an occupational therapy assistant. 

Entrepreneurial at heart, Lizzi still participates in the arts through teaching and designing purses and bags with a “definite urban but bohemian feel, combining vintage, found and funky fabrics” (check out www.likaj.com). Lizzi lives in Bend, OR, with her husband and their two children.

 

 

MARK QUINLAN is a head and neck cancer survivor, and founder and President of Q Group, Inc., a national promotional marketing agency based in Bend, Oregon (check out www.qgrouppromos.com). He has over 25 years of sales and marketing experience ranging from retail, wholesale clothing and golf equipment to high-tech internet messaging technology and national print advertising.

       

Along with his expertise in sales, marketing and advertising, Mark is a former PGA club golf professional and current golf, fly-fishing, fly-tying and outdoor enthusiast. His passion for the outdoors, and specifically fly fishing and tying, were a source of great relief for him in his fight with cancer. He looks forward to bringing that fly-fishing and tying passion and opportunity for encouragement to others battling through the cancer process.

A Pittsburgh, PA native, Mark and his wife Mary, along with their 4 children, moved to Bend from Southern California in 2004. His children range in age from 8 to 19 the two youngest are twins, born during the adoption of the two oldest. Mary is currently working on her first book, “Zero to Four in Nine Months” with Marks full support and encouragement.
